We're excited to be bringing the 2021–2022 Gulf Coast Reading Series back to Lawndale Art Center and back to real life. Please join us for our second event of this year, on October 15th at 7pm (doors open at 6:30). RSVP on Facebook (optional).

Rosa Alcalá is the author of three books of poetry, most recently MyOTHER TONGUE (Futurepoem, 2017). Her poems appear in numerous anthologies and journals, including Best American Poetry (2019 & 2021), American Poets in the 21st Century: Poetics of Social EngagementThe Nation, and American Poetry Review. The recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship, and runner-up for a PEN Translation Award, she is the editor and co-translator of New & Selected Poems of Cecilia Vicuña (Kelsey Street Press, 2018). She is a professor of creative writing at the University of Texas at El Paso, where she teaches in the Bilingual MFA Program.

Scott Repass has worked as a bartender, an actor, a carpenter, a barista, and a writer. He is currently an MFA candidate in fiction in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston. He has a Master of Liberal Studies degree from City University of New York and wrote his master’s thesis about body-switching movies. His writing has appeared in Vox, Fort Necessity, and Film Quarterly. Scott currently lives in Houston, where he and his wife own Poison Girl, the best bar on the planet.

Ashley Warner was born in New Orleans East, raised in New Orleans East and Gwinnet County Georgia. She is an Inprint Fellow pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Houston.

Lisa Wartenberg is a Colombian-born writer of fiction. She is an MFA candidate at the University of Houston's Creative Writing Program, where she holds an Inprint Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones Fellowship and a Sustaining the Writing Life Fellowship at 9thWonder Agency. She also serves as Assistant Fiction Editor at Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts.
